Walnut-moon

750,00

This piece is a walnut-moon that I carved with my CNC machine. Surrounding it is a beechwood ring that provides contrast and hides the LED strip underneath. When lit, a warm glow washes over the moon's surface, casting shadows that accentuate the topography.

This was the first version of the concept—a prototype, you might say. It took hours and hours of hand sanding to bring it to life. But a v2 is coming. It will be just as beautiful, but much easier (and cheaper) to make.

Light, reflections and contrasts are recurring themes in my work. But why?
There is something mesmerizing about how light interacts with wood. The way it reflects, as if the wood is infusing the light with warmth, creating a golden glow. In return, the light brings out the depth and beauty of the wood’s grain.
They complement each other, two elements merging into something new, something more.
Like 1 + 1 = 3. I think that's why.
